Air flow valve or sensor??

Asked by GuruBBRQ9 Dec 26, 2018 at 10:05 PM about the 1996 Mitsubishi Mirage S Coupe

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Hi I have 1996 Mitsubishi Mirage Coupe. It
will not run without having gas pedal
depressed at all times. It dies and then has
to be jumped to restart. I had a gadget
placed on the engine that shows defective
part # but can't remember what it was. I
THINK it was air valve. Please advise.
Thanks so much!!

It may have been the Air Flow Meter, Don't be fooled that code will set anytime you have a starting problem and you have the throttle to full (clear flood mode) Just by the sound of it I'd say if you can spare the coins replace the battery next check the fuel pressure regulator to see if it's leaking into the engine to check run the engine until warm the turn it off and unplug the vacuum line if it's wet inside the regulator is bad. If OK do an ignition tune up to get it to fire the fuel better and start sooner. The air meter may be cleanable but handle carefully. I hope this helps
