Directional/Tail lamps

Asked by Mark Jan 30, 2018 at 07:37 PM about the 1997 Ford Explorer 4 Dr Limited SUV

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My left directional lights up
instead of my tail lamps on
my 97 Ford Explorer. The
directional is a single
filament bulb that should only
light when flashing. Brake
light works but no power for
tail lamps. All this started
after replacing ALL bulbs
(F&R) with LED's. I'm lost, it's
not like I put the wrong
socket in the wrong hole, I
checked that. Brake lights
work, both sides, but left tail
and all right rear lamps out.

More food for thought. If I wiggle the T.S.S. towards the left (downwards) the right tail lamp will come on.

****EXPLORER UPDATE**** After 6 or 7 hours of checking grounds, sockets, switches, bulbs, and fuses my problem was a DEFECTIVE bulb! It was located in the front left of the car. I don't understand enough about electric circuits but once I located this bad bulb all my lighting issues disappeared.
