Coil issue?

Asked by Hockey71 Apr 13, 2011 at 02:34 PM about the 1995 Mitsubishi Eclipse GS

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

so my eclipse will get up to temp and after a 20 drive I can shut it off and it won't want to start. Also just driving sometimesit'll drop to 0 rpms and shudder. I hooked it up to a computer and at first it said Missfire in 3 and 1 ,and camshaft sensor.I was told by the previous owner that he replaced the valve cover gasket and stripped a bolt and maybe leaked oil on the plugs. He also said it has a new coil and wires.I replaced ALL the plugs with NTK copper and sure enough there was oil on #1 I cleaned it off and put it back in and out till I saw no oil. The car runs like a champ now , however now It still does the same things , but all these coil codes and camshaft sensor codes come up as well as misfire in 3 and 1.I guess a smart man would replace the coil and plugs as well , but I thought I'd ask you guys first. Thanks for your time.

Stalling and misfire primarilly at temp makes me think that the cam or cranksensors would be the more likely fault. without their signal the engine computer will likely shut off the spark to minimise damage. that is likely where the coil fault is from.
