That can be looked up if you have your vin#.
How would I have a VIN if I am not going to buy one until I know if it can tow my pop-up to the lake?

Ask the seller that your inquiring with or check the vehicle's history report for that answer.
Title, this is the most useless response to a question I've ever seen. If you don't know, and aren't going to find out, just don't answer. Now it shows up as first in a google search, so who knows how many thousand people's time you've wasted. The answer is the hybrid is not rated for towing, which is why you can't order one with the tow package. The reason is the added weight the battery already adds to the vehicle. The non-hybrid with the tow package is rated for 3.6K lbs.

Jessica-great research, thank you.......
The added weight for the batteries is only around 400 lbs so when the manual says that is the reason for it not being capable of towing, that's a total load of crap. It has a towing capacity of 3600 lbs, but it says towing is "not permitted." I would say that it is seeing as how a nissan leaf can tow 3 more nissan leafs. (around 3.2 to 3.4 thousand lbs each)
Not that "why" helps much, but I'd lay the blame on the Hybrid's EVT versus the ICE's nine- speed transmission. If I read correctly, at low speed & high torque the primary electric motor feeds a fairly large amount of power into the secondary motor (operating one as a generator and the other as a motor across a planetary gearset allows variable engine speeds), and the transmission wasn't designed for continuous operation in this mode.
I think it's BS that Chrysler dictated what you can do with $60000 dollars vehicle! It a deal breaker!
