Jerking

My 1997 ford explorer is jerking really bad never
smooths out just jerks why is that the whole time
I'm accelerating and riding it's jerks ??

If it's not the transmission slipping, then the engine must need a complete tune up. Maybe start by scanning for problem codes and go from there. It could be anything in a vehicle that old. Also check you fuel filter or pump pressure.
