Car Gurus or Corporate Flunkies?

Buyer beware.
So I just got home from a 100+ mile drive to and from Autofair of Haverhill,
Mass. I was looking for a new 2019 Subaru Crosstrek. I had an appointment
with Anthony, the "manager" but as soon as I got there I was told that Ana
Torres would be helping me.
I had found the car on Car Gurus. I confirmed the price with Jill, before I left;
$25,049 which seemed about right for a 1 year old vehicle.
It was a clean deal (at least, my end). I had nothing to trade in. I was paying
cash. I could take it as soon as it was available. The only reason I drove
down there was to confirm its condition against the VIN#.

To make a long story short, Ana called Tony to prepare the final documents.
To my surprise, the bottom line of the car had grown to  $29,774 -- almost
$5,000 more, including $1500 in tax which I expected to pay. When I asked
about the almost $3500 in "dealer fees", Anthony feigned shock and said,
"You didn't think we were going to give you a break on the fees when you got
such a deal on the car, did you???

So with an afternoon wasted, I went home. Don't come to this dealership;
and don't peruse the Car Gurus site looking for fairly priced cars. You may
miss out on the popcorn and herbal tea but avoiding these charlatans will
more than make up for it.
