AC turning on randomly

Asked by Fonz78 Jun 02, 2018 at 11:50 AM about the 2010 Ford Fusion Hybrid FWD

Question type: General

I was driving my car this morning, going to get
breakfast and my AC turned on all by itself. I
thought that was odd. I turned it off, and then
maybe another 5 minutes later it did it again,
sporadically. I don’t know what to make of it. The
AC and heater blow fine and work, I can hear the
pump engage and feel it. I just don’t know why it
would turn on by itself to blow air. Could it be a
relay? Or something shorting our?  Any help would
be great. Thanks!

I have a 2017 Ford Fusion S and the same thing has been happening to me also. I thought i kept hitting the knob accidentally and at times thought I may have even turned it back on a intentionally ... it was causing me to question my actions . then it dawned on me that I wasn't turning it on I was seeing this happening randomly and quite more frequently so here I am trying to find out what's going on.

I have done a master reset on mine through the settings. It has worked for the moment. This is just a temporary fix though.

I have the same issue , and figured out what is the issue , i noticed it will happen on hot weather , so i found that it will happen when the plastic around the ac buttons getting hot and pressing the buttons down will make them on , for making sure this is the problem try to press the plastics around the buttons the ac should turn on , i tried many times and all of times the ac turned on each times , i will make a video also . but i don't know how to fix this problem

It happens to my 2016 Ford Fusion too. But I discovered if I turn the knob away from max a/c it doesn’t come back on. Just a little bit or turn away from the max a/c does the magic for me. Might work for you and too

Fusion 2014, happens when **battery starts going bad**. Every night after my evening duty I start the car and every time I accelerate AC goes on. It stops after around 10 mins of driving when the battery is charged.

My 2017 ford fusion SE is doing the same thing. My problem started about a month ago. I was told that a sensor needs to be replaced. So I am going to have this problem fixed, if possible. Hopefully that will resolve the issue.

To Youris: I can recreate the plastic-on in my 2017 Fusion as you identified. Did you find the fix?

I have a 2013 Fusion having the same issue. First it actually started with the AC coming on when I held the scan button down on my radio. About a week later on my way to work my AC came on full blast 4 or 5 times within 30 mins. That same day leaving work soon as I started the car I got a E Brake Malfunction Warning Service Now, on my dash. I've also noticed my speakers sound like they are blown but the sound seems to go from speaker to speaker and the volume when I'm using it to talk on the phone isn't as loud as it used to be. I have had trouble with a delay in it cranking a few times since owning it. Had battery tested, was told it tested like brand new

I think I figured it out! I added my sister to Bluetooth a while ago when it started happening. I went into to delete her device ONLY keeping one (mine) and it went away. I’ve been dealing with this issue for a bit and I hope this helps others!
