Sounds like a relay clicking but may not be the issue I would start by checking it but also doing a full maintenance on all those items left undone like cleaning the throttle body and all cleanable sensors, change fuel filter, PCV ect basicially anything you can do, check all electrical connections, fuses, relays, test sensors, and all electrical components.
I/had this issue before The ptu was the main cause! Replaced it drives like a charm. Other issue occured was the iac on the throttle body unsed. The air intake changed that drives like a champ! Other common issues egr valve and tneres 4 of them makes a big difference once them get changed!
Is clicking on passenger side of center console? If so possibly your ign relay acting up. Something else to check is the back of the ignition switch it self. There are two small Phillips head screws that hold the wire harness to switch. These are known to become loose causing similar issues as you are having. Check and retighten them.
