Maybe Audi sets a trouble code that must be cleared via a drive cycle. Gotta love those European cars!

Thank you! It doesn't make sense at all.

No it doesn't make sense , it makes dollars , lots of them for someone . Once any codes are cleared there are monitors that have to go through a drive cycle before they are " o.k.'d " think of them as anti virus or a scan . Some cars clear the monitors sooner than others and some won't clear till others do . ie. My sisters car , we cleared the codes and drove for 80 miles till there was only one monitor " not ready " which is allowed in N.Y.S. and she got the sticker . At 135 miles the code came up but who cares , so there was a 50 mile window where the computer was o.k.
The gas gauge must be between one quarter and three quarters full for the computer to run the diagnostics on all the systems to set the readiness monitors. Under Federal Law you will pass inspection with one readiness monitor not set. Doesn't matter which one is not set as long as all the others are set. 1996 thru 99 models will pass with two readiness monitors not set. 2000 to current model year will pass with one readiness monitor not set. Hope that helps! Jim
