Oil is way cheaper priced at Walmart for the same brands. Stay with a Napa or Fram oil filter ( same Filter exactly ). As far as the Brand of oil, I have ALWAYS used Valvoline. It stays cleaner looking at oil change time in our 1976 Stingray. But even as a kid building Mussel Cars I knew it didn't sud up or stink at our 2000 mile oil change like all others did.
I run penzoil high mileage 10w 30 in my 91 3000 gt sl. And yes it tends to be dirty at oil changes. I recently had to replace some valves due to my improper installation of timing belt on my part and noticed that the inner workings of my heads(cams, rocker arms and lifters) were real clean. A lot cleaner than others I had worked on. Now was that because of the oil I use I am not sure but I am going to stick with it just in case. Oh and I am right at 200000 miles. Hope this helps.

All of my answers will be based on the assumption that the Questions are coming from people who want maximum performance and fuel mileage. That in mind, A zero tolerance engine should never run synthetic oil. There censors are really fussy . Synthetic=Teflon coating to an extent. All engines that are abel to run 30 or 40 weight oil are that way for a reason. Top end lubrication. 30 weight=cold weather (quicker pumping to the top). 40=summer (oil thin already at start up). Normal running temp on both is 10 weight.
Synthetic? I personally would not use it in these older cars.

Mark is right . Unless you have a $20,000 engine that needs the extra sticky power at extreamly high RPM'S, It is best just to leave it alone. Hats off to the oil companies who will try anything to get a few extra bucks out of you. I'll keep my few bucks thank you. Because the bucks just keep getting fewer and fewer. One last thing, until they make a 5000 mile oil filter, I will change mine on time.
i only run royal purple in my cars same with filters ive never had any issues with it

No. And thank you 4 the complete 411. After all that is what this site is all about.
I am currently using 10W-30 Mobil1 synthetic oil on my 1998 3000GT base model, but a friend recommended me to use 10W-40 Royal Purple non-synthetic, he said it was a better option.
I'm still confused. What's the best oil to use?
I just changed the oil in my 96 3000GT and I use Valvoline 10-30 conventional oil and I live in Florida, It works just fine. Don't use synthetic unless the vehicle calls for it...
My 91 gto lifters were tapping away with 20- 50 .Went to 10-40 and now gone yeww.
Can i use 5w 20 mobil 1 full sintetic on my 3000 GT 1994
