Asked by jcwatlanta Jan 03, 2019 at 12:05 PM about the 2019 Hyundai Sonata Limited FWD

Question type: General

Using "Drive Mode Select" on my new 2019 Sonata Limited generates only
"Sport" on dash display. There is no display for "ECO" mode. Inquiry at dealer
did not yield satisfactory explanation. Anyone have any ideas?

I am experiencing the same problem. I just purchased a 2019 Hyundai Sonata Limited with the 2.4L engine and am not getting the ECO or the SMART drive modes. The answer that I got when I inquired with my dealer was that these drive modes were only available on the Limited 2.0T. I find that hard to believe because if you go to YouTube and and check out the Redline review of the 2018 Sonata Limited with 2.4L engine, these modes are present. I called Hyundai customer service thinking that the problem could be fixed with a software update but was told that there are no recalls on my car. I hope that we can resolve this issue.

I contacted Hyundai through their website and was told to review the pages in the manual that address Drive Mode, but those pages indicate ECO mode should be there. I think they changed this feature on the 2019, but didn't change any of the written documentation. We turned in a 2016 that we ran in ECO mode almost all the time and this is very disappointing.

2018 sonata limited with 2.4 gdi sulev here. According to owners manual, there is no caveat about not having eco, comfort, sport, and “smart” drive modes. I am missing just “smart” mode on my model. I asked the dealer and was told that smart mode is for battery (or hybrid) models ... dont know about that, if true or not. However, just recently i did look in the quick reference guide for my 2018, and low and behold further info is there!!! Smart mode is only for 2.0T models, and ECO mode is not available on the ECO 1.6T models. Check your quick reference guide for your year’s qualifications. Pretty crappy to put it there only. I was still wondering why i was missing Smart mode. Also a shame the email you sent & dealer does not know this. I was perhaps considering a 2nd sonata, maybe a 2019 2.4l limited... sorry to hear ECO is gone! I am also wondering about my year’s 2018, and why some are made with sulev (or is it slev) engines, and some dont have that designation. Maybe thats related as well? Im in NY so it shouldnt be related to california and their super ultra low emissions vehicle standards... or so i would think. Dealer did not have any good answer about that question for me. More like: whatever models the plant sends us, is what we get. No difference to you as a customer.

hey all, I have the same issue with my 2019 sonata sel. I took it to the dealer, they showed me other 2019 sonatas and informed me that eco mode became the standard mode in the 2019 fleet. The car is always in eco mode, it just does not show it on the screen anymore. They didnt have an answer as to why the owners manual did not reflect this. hope this helps
