97 ford mustang 3.8l rebuild

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My 3.8l has 250,000 miles on it. I seen on a forum. That I
potentially could rebuild the engine. If the stock block
looks ok. No gouges or marks that would make me
question otherwise. Because the block is already
"seasoned" it will last longer than a normal stock block. My
question to cargurus. Can I rebuild my engine that has
250k on the block. And if I do should I change out
everything except the block or can I just get a regular
Googled rebuild kit for it. Thanks in advance.

Yes you can rebuild it but you will need a machine shop to bore it out 20 or 30 thousandths for new pistons and they will also need to turn the crank and rebuild the heads.

Price the machine shop work but I suspect it will cost around 2 grand if they don't assemble the engine.

Yup, rebuilding an engine is mostly labor costs, consider find a used one with lows miles to install. Far cheaper. But still close to $2K for the engine and then install.
