1997 mustang gt vin Plate

Asked by Joseph Dec 30, 2017 at 05:25 PM about the 1997 Ford Mustang GT Coupe RWD

Question type: Car Selling & Trading In

Yeah just bought me a 1997 mustang gt, a friend is
telling me that there is a possible vin swap with  the
car, just wondering what the vin plate looks like on
all the other mustangs on the driver side windshield,
just wondering also if you guys have also black
rivets on both sides. I vin checked and everything is
perfect but I’m not 100% sure.  My friend is telling
me though that the rivets are aftermarket!

A VIN is encoded on the ECM, you can have it retrieved with a scan tool. I see no shortage of results when doing a Web search for "mustang vin tag", so compare those images to yours. If the dash had been replaced of course that won't tell you much, as it would have a factory tag still embedded. (It would possibly have an odometer mismatch however). You can also check door tag, stamped serial (should have digits matching vin) on engine, or programmed vin in ecm.

I worked at an auto assembley Plant in the 80's and the rivets had a hex or octagon shaped head

The car is perfectly fine, went to the secretary everything was perfect, I do not think this car is a chop car.
