What is the baddes problem on a 2006 nissan Altima 2.5 S especial edition

Overall, the 2006 Altima is a good car, according to Consumer Reports (CR) and they called a used Altima a "Good Bet". Some owners DID report some minor engine problems, so I would suggest getting your mechanic to give the engine a once-over...Aside from that the car scored very well in the CR review! Good Choice!!

Those 'minor' engine problems involve replacing the engines! A friend is going through the fight with Nissan over exactly that right now. It seems this is not an uncommon problem, which caught me by surprise. Then again, not many of my friends drive Japanese cars. Come to that, I know 3 people who have, or have had, Altimas, and all 3 needed replacement engines. 2 were the 3.0, and the 3rd is the 2.5. Somehow, not quite what I would call a great bet.

Surprised that you folks in Canada have had issues to THIS extent with the Altima. It's a very popular car here in the USA and can honestly say that I can't recall seeing one disabled on the road....either the 2.5L 4 cylinder or the 3.5 L 6 cylinder model. The only Nissan I've owned thus far has been a 2005 Nissan 350Z with the 3.5L 6...reliable in the 4 years that I had her..only incident was a odd coolant leak that was completely out of the blue. While Consumer Reports isn't always spot on, they are a pretty good indicator of what positives/negatives there are about a car. Assuming that ALL 3 of your friends were diligent about maintenance on their Altimas, maybe JTL1210 needs to do some research to see what EXACTLY the minor issues are for the 2006 model year..Check for TSB's and Recalls and again, have it looked over by a reputable mechanic. the friend that is fighting with Nissan right now is in the U.S. He is the one told me that it is a common problem! I didn't know, simply because I don't know many people with Nissans.

i had an 05 altima no problems traded it for and 06 and have had issues since day 1. I am now looking for a new engine only because i was laid off recently and cant afford a new car. I bought the 06 altima with 11 miles brand new in 2007 and I have now 120,000 miles on it. In 2008 i fishtailed on the freeway and broke my suspension after that the problems kept coming. So far ive replaced the control arms (left front 2 times), the axles, the shocks and struts (right front and rear twice), the tires (twice), the brakes, the motor mounts (1 twice 1 three times), rack and pinion, rear camber arm, front outer tie rod end, front bearings, im sure i left something out but i would of had a new car by now right? well all the issues finally stopped until a few days ago, the engine is leaking oil from the top right side and it now makes a tap tap tap sound when running, it shuts off if im at a redlight and it either doesnt crank at all only a click if i try and start it sometimes or it cranks for a while then starts. I have a 2006 Nissan Altima. Now I haven't had any major issues with my engine but I am having issues with my paint job. I was told that back in 2005/06 the new Altimas sat in crates at the rail yards for a long period of time due to engine problems! your Altima should be covered for 5 yrs or 100k miles! I'm still battling Corporate over my paint job! my car is 8 yrs old and looks terrible!

My mom Bought 1 brand new in 2006 and she just gifted it to me like 3 months ago...We have had literally no problems with it at all and it has 170,000 miles on it...other than oil changes and tires. the car is still perfect, I always say that its probably the nicest 1 I have seen around.
