CRV 2019 won’t start
28 Answers
I just got word from my Honda dealer that there is a problem with 2019 CRV. There is a computer glitch causing some cars not to start. This is unacceptable when buying a new car. I am Consulting the lemon law lawyer. She told me she received 4 cases earlier in the week. I made no 5.
Honda buyers beware
Please refer to this question. It is the same problem as yours. https://www.cargurus.com/Cars/Discussion-t84281_ds1000311? sntEmlId=2691151973#msg953400
@GuruC7BL9 What state do you live in and can you share any information? Please go to referenced question In above answer. There are many of us who are in the same situation.
Pennsylvania. Bucks county. We have consulted the lemon law people it qualifies
Our dealership has us overriding a program by pressing the start button 3 times after you shut it off. Supposedly this car runs an omissions test after every other ride and that does not shut off which is draining the battery so their answer is to press the start button three times after you shut the car off which overrides that program. Still acceptable for a brand new CRV!!
GuruC7BL9: Hope you had a chance to read the through the thread I posted above. There are 131 posts to check out. Would love to have you join us. Strength in numbers... If I may ask, have you met all the requirements for the PA Lemon Law yet? Did you go through the Regional Arbitration process already? We only have 2 service department visits, two visits to our house by the service department plus many jumpstarts and one tow. 15 days at dealer. Only two receipts though. Don’t think we qualify for the LL yet. Getting close. They have a Recall in Canada now and some dealers here have the software update but we haven’t been notified yet and do have a Honda Case #. Thanks very much for the info you shared above.
Lemon law lawyer said it needs to die 3 times to qualify. We are on 2 times. When we spoke to the lemon law lawyer she said this problem qualifies and to call again after the third no start. Lemon law attorney was quite aware of the Honda problem.
Thanks so much for the information GuruC7BL9. Does “die” mean the car had to be jumpstarted, from what we consider dead, or does it mean that it couldn’t be jumpstarted and had to be towed? Sorry for all the questions.
To the best of my knowledge car has to die meaning it won’t start. We call Honda road side assistance they come to tow it. But have to jump start it - in order to start - it to drive it into tow truck.
I received a call this afternoon from my Honda dealer saying that they have the program. My service is for 5:00 today. 4/1/19. I’ll keep you posted. Hopefully this fixes the problem.
2019 crv will not start. Everything unresponsive. Tried to jump but car alarm went off nonstop. Still no response. Called dealership, will not be able to handle problem today. Told me to call 800 in Calif. Will do that. Local dealer used to take care of problems. Not happy!!!

Has anyone gotten a, "Electric Brake Problem" notice while trying to start the car but unable to start it ? CRV, 2017 bought new from dealer in Yonkers , NY
We had this same problem on our 2018 CR-V recently. It wouldn’t start two times in one day and had to be jump started. The dash board display said “brake hold system problem” and “electric parking brake problem”. It only has 11,xxx miles on it. The dealer installed a new battery. I hope this is the end of the problem.
I have 2019 CR-V and from couple months ago, it starts, started from the glitch when starting engine and completely died Today. I'm checking if this qualify for the LL while waiting for my towing truck... two more dead, huh?!

Update, 2017 CRV that wouldn't start. "Electric Brake Problem" caused the wheels to lock up causing the car not to even be able to be rolled out of it's spot . Roadside Assistance sent two different trucks and they didn't even lay a hand on the car, they told me you need to get the car out of the garage so we can tow it. I then called my own mechanic and his guy came over and within two hours the car was at Honda dealership. hey refused to tell me what they did to fix the problem, they said it was a battery. Here is the worst part of it, I have no confidence in this vehicle anymore. I checked the battery and guess what, it' s not new at all and the tie down holder nuts were never even turned. I am stuck with a $90 towing fee. I think I am going back to a Toyota.
Well, my 2018 CR-V died today & it's not the battery. Tried jumping it with no joy. It's like the vehicle has zero power (no battery); nothing comes on, horn won't blow; nothing; totally dead. Waiting for a tow truck to take it to the dealership. Surprised Honda has not fixed the problem considering the long list of complaints.
I have a 2019 I bought this past April. I experienced all this stuff above. I am mad because my car has only 7,100 miles on it and I am experiencing an unreliable car. This is my first experience like this with a new car. Honda had a good reputation with me until this happened. The dealer I bought the car from is 40 miles away. Over and back 2 times would be 160 miles to get the car repaired even if it is under warranty. A Dodge truck looks good right now.
Please read this thread about the 2019 CRV Battery problem: https://www.cargurus.com/Cars/Discussion-t84281_ds1000311? actionMessages=Post+has+been+removed.
Ed92626, what if you don’t want a “replacement” so the same thing can happen? We want to give the car back and have our money refunded. From my research this has been a problem before but not nearly to the extent of the CRV-EX-L 2019’s +. Thanks for replying to my post.
Ed92626, We checked into all of the above last spring. There weren’t any Class Action suits at that time. We now have all the appropriate Dealership Receipts and paperwork that are needed if we decide to pursue a PA Lemon Law suit. The PA Lemon Law states we need to follow Honda’s Customer Satisfaction Process to begin with. We are already a couple of steps ahead on that since we contacted American Honda last Spring. Currently, we are waiting for a return phone call from our American Honda Case Manager who was assigned to us at the time and who has already given us a Case Number. Thanks for all of your recommendations Ed.... We feel we can trust your reply and guidance because you seem like you have a good understanding of situations like this. Would you have a problem posting your very first reply here to the other thread I mentioned above? Or would you mind if I put a copy of it on the other thread to help them? Sorry if I’ve put you on the spot. Whatever you decide will be followed. Thanks again, so very much!
Ed92626, just saw your other posts that came while I was typing. A copy of that Service Bulletin was uploaded on the other thread I follow. I had that Software Update done on our CRV last April but the battery went dead again this past Wednesday when I was at the dealership for a PA Inspection and Steering Wheel Harness Recall fix. So they were finally able to replicate the problem, by accident, at the dealership. So we have had the so called software fix to no avail. They put a new battery in and I was told to drive it around for a couple weeks to see what happens. Last spring, with 85 miles on the car, we had at the very least, 10-15 jumpstarts attempted or completed, several tows and 2-3 service people come to our house even. This was within a couple week timeframe. Now here we go again, after the software fix, back where we started. We only have 1475 miles on our CRV because we are afraid to take it out of town or drive it in bad weather. We live in NW PA, hahaha!
Bought a 2020 CRV two weeks ago. Car has only 600 miles on it and we took it out for a short 5 mile drive to Target yesterday. Backed into our garage as usual, and about 30 minutes after parking, I was going to go pick up a pizza and then the car refused to start. Kept getting a message saying "Accessory Mode". All interior lights work, screens come on and fans turn on but the engine won't turn. We have the EX L model and I find it absolutely unacceptable. What if my wife and daughter had been out running errands and this happened to them?! Then we call Honda Roadside Assistance only to be told that our local dealer is closed and all they can do is tow it to a nearby service center. What good is this service if they won't even send a tech to try and resolve the issue on the spot?!? I am livid at this problem and am looking forward to hear their explanation today.
My 2019 Honda CRV doesn't start , displays "EMERGENCY BRAKE SYSTEM" PROBLEM after I charged it for 1 HR. After 5 tries the displayed warning problem went away then started OJ
Push start won’t start. Held down start button seemed like it was cycling through start sequence but did nothing but a few lights on dash. It is dead, dead. Thinking it’s a software issue. 2019 CRV with 25,000 miles.

My 2018 Honda CRV would not start and warning light saying "Electrical Brake Problem" appeared with all other warning lights. I replaced the battery it started but it is still saying "Electrical Brake Problem". I missed work because I am afraid to drive it due to reading that the brakes could lock up on me or car shut down while driving. I am going to have it towed to the dealership. Ill keep you posted. I wish I knew what the problem with these Honda CRVs are. It is not the battery. They need to find out what the problem is and recall it before anyone gets seriously hurt.
