My 9 month old 2020 RAV4 Hybrid started
making a high pitched whistling sound at 4300
miles. At first it was only when beginning to
engage the brake but now it intermittently does it
while I’m just driving and not braking. It is getting
worse and is very annoying and embarrassing. I
went to the dealership - Hoselton in Rochester,
NY- and had a terrible experience regarding this.
Long story, 6 dealership visits, and many
condescending conversations later, they
admitted to and put in writing that this issue is
coming from the brake booster/master cylinder
assembly. They refuse to fix it because they (Dick
Clark, Eric Wilkinson, some engineer) said that it
is a “normal” hybrid sound that “no one else has
complained about.” They also suggested that I
trade in my 2020 for a “new” vehicle with them if
the sound bothers me. Seriously?
it is absurd that I paid 40k plus with extra
warranty for a vehicle that didn’t make this sound
on the lot and didn’t make it for 7 months, that
I’ve driven numerous others that don’t make this
horrible sound, and their answer is avoidant and
condescending and refusal to do anything to
right this. So much for Toyota care and customer
service and a dealership that claims they care
about their customers. I’m disgusted. I will be
escalating this as far as necessary. This is
unacceptable.
I encourage anyone else with this issue to hold
their dealership and Toyota accountable. This is
not ok.
