temp sensors 1997 Ford Ranger
Asked by rstuart47 Aug 15, 2014 at 06:57 PM about the 1997 Ford Ranger XLT Extended Cab SB
Question type: Maintenance & Repair
Coming out of the thermostat cover is a metal pipe with a sensor (temp?) and several inches further on is another sensor which also appears to be a temp sensor. My car overheats while the temp gauge reads normal. Why two sensors?

One is for gauge and the other is for ECU data...click for full screen
Still trying to figure out which is which. C101 says 'sensor' and 170 sender..for what that's worth

On my Ranger the lighter colored one with number F5AF-12A648-AA is the one for the PCM. Some cars the temp gauge unit only has one wire connection
