I had this problem with my 2003 350Z. I got everything apart and it is purely mechanical. The end of the switch that is SUPPOSED to engage the forward motor wears abnormally fast or is just to small. What I did was unclip the connector that goes into the seat motor at the bottom and attached a couple leads from a voltmeter to a battery charger and engaged the motor. Keep the battery charger on the low setting if possible. The connector is the large one that is near the front of the seat. you want to engage the leads on the end that is connected to the motor not the wire. Do not remove the small clips that look like they have one wire in them, that will disengage the airbags and will through an air bag light, big one near the seat motor only. If you hook everything up and the seat moves in the wrong direction reverse the leads and it will move the seat in the opposite direction. you do not need to take the seat out to do this.
