Ignition wont go into lock and car wont start

Asked by Vulch Jul 18, 2019 at 06:00 PM about the 2004 Nissan Altima 2.5 S

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My key will get stuck in the 1 postion rather then in
lock so I can take out the key. Also it acts like it has
now power and the lights won't work. I had a
electric burn smell under the hood also. The
alternator is making noise also.

check the drive belt, since it has a pulley attached to the alternator that may be where the sound is actually coming from, as for the other issues it sounds like something has either shorted out (maybe), and the smell may mean that there are some exposed wires or protective housing is too close to a part of the engine, not really sure but im having issues with my 2005, so just learning as I go
