Has anyone else had a chemical smell ?

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I bought my explorer back in 2020 and almost
right away after driving off of the lot I had an odor
it smelt like nail polish remover but definitely a
chemical smell. It has been a continuous situation
that I have been dealing with since. I have
complained numerous times and had it checked
out and all and they even just recently had my car
for like 7 days and still say they couldn't smell it. I
have been told numerous times they can't do
anything until they can smell it. I am absolutely at
my breaking point with this 2 years is way too long
to be smelling this nasty smell it makes me have
headaches and completely makes me nauseated.
It is to the point my kids in the back are noticing
the smell. It comes and goes and doesn't stay for
very long so even when it does come I can't even
make it for anyone to smell. It is ridiculous that
nothing is being done about this. And how many
other people are out there with he same situation.
How many more have to have headaches and be
nauseated because of this. Ford is absolutely
wrong for that. We all need to get together and
fight this it is unfair to us. I felt like I was going
crazy I was told nothing could be found in forums
about this issue and basically looking crazy
although I had other adult passengers that could
smell the same smell that I was smelling. And
having the same reactions. It's sad that they are
not taking it more seriously. What will it take
someone to get sick or maybe even die if it is
harmful enough. I am absolutely digusted with
Ford for how this is being handled and the more
time that goes by and my family or myself have to
smell this the more mad I am getting. You pay
30,000 and up and they can't take you more
seriously. We all need to get together and fight
this! Something has got to give. There is no
reason why we are not being heard. Ford needs to
listen up and fix these cars.

Is the odor in the vehicle or does it blow in the vehicle through the heat and air conditioning vents? Can you smell it under the hood too? Does it matter if you have the heat or air conditioner on? Is the inside of the vehicle hot, warm, or cold when you smell it? Intermittent problems are very hard to diagnose. A lot of times it comes down to the owner figuring out the conditions when the problem occurs. There's usually a pattern. So think like a detective and if there's a pattern you can predict when it will happen, go to the Dealer and let them smell it. Hope that helps! Jim

I have the same exact problem same make and model explorer 2020 limited Now I’m suffering from breathing issues because no one knows what I’ve been inhaling! Im going to address this to ford them selves! My dealership smelled it but they couldn’t find the cause I used charcoal bags everywhere I detailed cleaned the car smelled the leather senates and every inch of the car nothing! I have coffee beans in the car! Still the funky odor there! Ford is killing me!

I am having the same intense chemical smell issue with my 2020 Ford Explorer Limited. I report it every time that I go in for regularly scheduled oil changes. Same response - we can't detect it. It causes an immediate headache and sore throat. My wife wants to get rid of the vehicle as soon as possible. I keep asking why this cannot be addressed. Obviously others are having the same issue.
