Yes absolutely. I had to change one in my car cause it would not close completely so the engine was running cold. But if it’s running hot cause it’s slow or stuck closed, that can damage the engine very quickly. Get it fixed now.

It's possible a code can be set if the thermostat does not open at the correct temp.
