Nissan Xterra clutch engages at floor when cold, at top when warm

Asked by DieselMusic Oct 07, 2013 at 01:48 PM about the 2004 Nissan Xterra SE

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

First thing in the morning, it is hard to put into gear, then the vehicle lurches forward as soon as clutch is only a millimeter off of the floor. 20 minutes later, the clutch engages properly, closer to the top of the pedal travel. I find no leaking fluid anywhere on my 2004 Xterra. (5 speed manual transmission, 2.4 liter, 4 cylinder).
