The first thing we need to know is exactly what codes do you have when you scanned the computer. Most auto parts stores will scan the computer for free. Once we have the codes we can proceed. The gas cap and oxygen sensor are always the "go to" things when the check engine light comes on. Unfortunately these usually don't fix the problem. Proper diagnosis is the key to not wasting time and money trying to fix your vehicle. Jim

Hello, about the service engine light on in the nissan altima 2003 2.5s the code show is : P0442 (evap) SYSTEM LEAK DETECTED ( Small leak .04 inch) another code: Secondary DTCs P0458 Evaporative Emission System Leak Detected ( very small leak)

Ok, you're going to need a smoke test to find this leak. The shop will force harmless smoke into the EVAP system through the gas tank. Then put the vehicle up on their lift and inspect the EVAP system hoses and other components to see where the smoke comes out. Where there's smoke, there's a leak. Because the computer has the ability to detect a leak too small for the naked eye to see, the smoke test is the only way to find it. Hope that helps! Jim
