Nissan Sentra GXE starting intermittently.

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I just recently started having trouble with my car starting. I turned the key and there was
absolutely nothing, no turning over, not even a click like it was trying. I then turned the key
forward and shifted into neutral and then park and tried starting it and it worked. It
happened again, but this time I had to shift back and forth a couple times before it would
start. Any ideas?

My first guess would be the shift position sensor that tells your car in which position the automatic shift is. My second guess is the ignition switch and has nothing to do with the shift position. It is a small assembly, working with the key barrel for the ignition. If you can start the car only by playing with the key, it's the ignition switch.
