Idle problems on 02 Nissan Altima

Asked by Melissa Mar 30, 2016 at 09:06 AM about the 2002 Nissan Altima 2.5 S

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

i have a 02 Nissan Altima that just had a used engine put in. After we got
the car running I've noticed it will idle up nd down. It will only do it in park, i
do not notice it in drive. Also it doesn't do it all the time. but when the car
isn't reeving up and down it will idle high at about 2000rpm. it has also
flipped the check engine light. Before the motor that was placed in this car,
the previous car it did not run this way. It did perfectly fine.No noticed in gas
milage change or performace in engine.  what could be wrong and what do
i need to look for to fix it. its getting quite annoying. Thank you

Start with plug wires I'm not sure if they have an idle adjustment screw on that model or not if they do only as a last resort turn car off and adjust it crank it up and see if it improves like I said if it does it's a last resort check your plug wires to see if they're crossed anywhere and 02 sensors first though

try to scan the computer for codes. sounds like a possible idle air control valve, but it should throw a code. also, check for vacuum leaks.

Don’t do anything just do the idle relearn don’t turn any screws or change anything the throttle body has to be programmed to the computer just google idle relearn procedure for your car.
