Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Car won't start. Died while driving. 2002 nissan xterra, 3.3 v6, 2wd, 125k miles. I replaced
air filter, battery, spark plugs, and distributor a few months ago. Thought it was fuel
related this time so I switched the fuel pump and fuel sending unit and fuel filter. Still no
start, even with starter fluid. Any ideas?

That engine has a timing belt. Have you ever changed it? If not may have jumped time from stretching or god forbid broke. Nissan schedule is 105k miles, but the guys at the nico forums don't wait that long

well I just got the car used a few months ago. This is my 2nd break down with it and i'm just not learning that that needs to be done. The car is at 125k miles so I don't know if I should assume it's already been done or that it needs to be. The distributor rotor spins when I try to crank it and as I understand it that means the belt is ok? However, I still plan to replace it after I figure out whats wrong now.

Its the crank sensor! I had the same problem with my xterra. You can get a crank sensor for around $20 to $30 at the parts store. I hope this helps.

Same with my ‘08. After checking and replacing all the mentioned and assumed culprits, wound up being completely clogged & crumbled catalytic converters.
