Towing with 2020 GMC Sierra 1500

Question type: General

I will be towing a double axle utility trailer total
maximum weight on the hitch will be 5000
pounds.  Plus a maximum weight in the truck
bed including passengers will be 2500
pounds.   I have no external transmission
intercooler but I do have the towing package.  
Planning to do a single one way trip with this
trailer/load about 1100 miles through the
Rocky Mountains.   Will I be ok running two
thirds capacity on the hitch?  Should I reduce
my load in the trailer and or truck?  Dealership
mechanic said I would be fine.

Check the 2020 Chevy towing guide. I suspect you are maxed out. 5,000 pounds plus 2,500 is 7,500 pounds. If you blow it up the dealer is not gonna help you.

Chevy towing guide is 7500 on the hitch I will be 5000 max on the hitch, plus the load in the bed

Towing capacity is load + trailer weight. 2,500 pounds in the truck may exceed your load capacity.

The total cargo with passengers must not exceed 2500. That is the max. I am planning on going under the max but I wanted to hear experts opinion. So your saying hauling at max load is not a good idea for the truck in mountains along with a 2/3 capacity on the hitch.
