Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Im having problems with my work/winter beater. It
will not idle or run properly. If you spray starter fluid
around the plenum it would idle. So changed out
the lower intake manifold gaskets and still yhe
same problem. Replace the idle control and still no
improvement. Theres a high pitch whistle from the
throttle. Help me before I give up and junk it. Its my
only winter car I feel comfortable and safe in.

You are actually right you do have an intake leak. From time you spray it AROUND the intake and it idles good. It be a vacuum leak too..Or even the intake warped or cracked.

My suggestion would be to start car and spray plenum and locate area that it idles up and mark it. (Section by section). Try shooting air into the intake and using soapy liquid spray outside plenum to see bubbles.
