I gotta 1997 Ford Taurus...will it haul 1500 lbs?

ok..thank u. I was wondring, because I pulled a 900 lb motorbike on a 1000 lb trailer with a 97 Taurus & it struggled pretty good, always shifting down (I probly went 3/4 of my 300 miles trip in 2nd gear). And then about 1/2 way into the trip, it started to burn blue smoke coming from underneath. When I finally got home (I could only go about 45 mph) & disconnected the trailer, everything seemed normal again. But I took the car to a transmission shop& they told me I had blown the seal on the torque converter & it'd b $600.00 to fix. I thot they were just lying. Is there even a seal on the torque converter? I kinda doubt anything was permantly damaged as, like I say, the car runs perfect without a heavy trailer. (It's a 97 & only has 68,000 original miles on it.
