Car won't crank

Asked by Lacey Jan 13, 2016 at 12:51 AM about the 1997 Ford Taurus GL

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My car won't do anything except click
when I try to crank it. Sometimes it will
crank and sometimes it will just click. I can
crank it by cranking it under the hood, I
have literally tried so much to fix it. My dad
thinks it has something to do with the
security but he just can't figure out what it
is. Can someone please help me? Is there
anything I can do to try to fix it or see if its
the security? I have a 1 year old so it is
REALLY rough getting stuck places.

We've replaced the wire going to the starter, the battery, the crank shift positioner or whatever it's called. And also checked every fuse. My dad is pretty smart when it comes to cars but he's thinking it is the security and he doesn't know much about that.
