has hybrid tech improved

Asked by Guru999PZ7 Sep 29, 2020 at 12:26 PM about the 2008 Toyota Camry Hybrid FWD

Question type: Shopping & Pricing

I'm planning to replace my 2008 Camry hybrid soon, and wonder If I should
even consider another hybrid.  I will be moving to a mountain town and the
Camry displayed a distinct lack of oomph climbing long, slow mountain
roads.  Pedal to the floor could barely maintain 55 or so by about halfway
up.  Are newer hybrids better at this?  What should I look for to ensure I get
a car capable enough in the mountains and on cross country road trips

Depends on your budget but if you liked your Toyota otherwise, I would suggest a Rav4 hybrid. Or, if you are okay with a plug in, I would recommend a Subaru Crosstrek Hybrid. Both are great cars and the Subaru has standard all wheel drive while the Rav4 has optional all wheel drive. Otherwise, hybrid technology is always improving since car manufacturers are all ways looking for ways to help save the enviorment. Hope this helps!

On long uphill grades any assist you get from the hybrid battery will run out before long as the batteries are quite small. Usually only good for a mile or two on flat ground. If you want more power, buy a more powerful car.
