A little lighted icon appeared next to my odometer. It looks like a tiny yellow car on a 45-degree slope. What does this mean?

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

This little icon just appeared; no reason I can discern. I've never seen it before. I just had the car services (oil change, etc.) this weekend, if that matters.

Check to see if the hill descent button on the side of the gear shift has been pressed. All you do is push the button and the light goes off. My wife accidently pushes the button often when she shifts from park to drive.

I think it is for stopping the car from rolling back when you’re on a hill and topped then take your foot off the brake to push the gas.

It's primary use is to allow your engine to slow you down on steep descents. This process helps to keep your brakes from overheating when you are driving in areas of steep inclines. And yes, it helps with resuming movement whilst moving uphill after a stop.
