Ignition and start

Asked by melhol550 Aug 04, 2018 at 06:05 AM about the 1999 Nissan Frontier 2 Dr SE Extended Cab SB

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Keys were lost on 99 Nissan frontier. Ignition
was removed. Looks like everything on the
column was removed in attempt to hot wire.
Now truck won't start. Got fire to distributer
and fuel.  And was told that if have to
replace parts.  Would it be easier to deal
with to go to like pull a parts and get the
whole column with switch.  All of the
brackets that hold switch was ripped out.

there's probably a transponder that the original key had , it sends a message to the computer to allow the thong to start , without this no amount of hot wiring will make it go , you'll have to make sure all the wiring is correct and then see a dealer or locksmith that can program a key for you, after you get an ignition set ,

Thank you. I was told the key was a plain key by the dealership. Thank goodness. So can I just put a touch switch in it and bad the ignition completely. I bought the truck because my car was down and I needed it just to do household stuff anyway. So major repairs and this type of thing I wasnt ready for. I was told once that the ignition had a security feature like your saying but it was in ignition not key. Today I was told it might just be a relay or some ignition switch thing. But the dealer ran the van and said it was a plain key for sure. The truck had been sitting in my yard for a month now and I've been sitting to. But if it's a thousand dollar fix. I'm out. Right now the 200 ignition part alone is a problem. I really need the truck to go. Doesn't have to go much but it's all the go I got. And I live alone so. .. I'm lost.

I have a 2005 Nissan frontier truck I lost the remote key but I got a regular key made to get in it but win I tried to start it it turns over but it want start can someone tell me why
