Are you positive its the Trans at all??? I know that Fords with Coil over plug design have problems with coil pack failure. This seems to happen when under load 2 - 3 gear and sometimes when down hifting from OD to 3rd. The coil is sometimes intermittant and will work after about what feels like a 10 - 30second shudder of the engine. It feels like a trans but its not. Check you computer for codes. If you have anything in the 300 - 308 its more then likely a coil going bad.

torque converter. same problem, Ford dealer said it was the clutches were drying out. drained the fluid and added a special converter fluid. and havent had a bit of problem since. PS don't trust a transmission shop unless you know them REAL well

1997 Thunderbird, 101000 miles. Auto trans shudders when getting up, sometimes 3Rd, sometimes 2ND. When I let the gas peddle go and reaccelorate, it is fine.
