Can't access trunk of 97 thunderbird

Asked by Johngalt10 Dec 21, 2014 at 10:06 AM about the 1997 Ford Thunderbird LX RWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I need to change the tail light of my
97 thunderbird but the latch on the
trunk broke so when I turn the key to
open it nothing happens. Is there
either a way to get in the drunk
otherwise ( the back seats are bolted
in)? Or to change the tail light
without opening the trunk?

Thansk!

Should have a trunk release button in the console glove box, alongside the fuel door release button.

Thanks for the response ken, there is a release button in the center console but it's hooked up to the same as the key hole. The thing inside the trunk that turns and opens the trunk when the button is pressed has detached from the trunk latch so if I press that button it will still turn but because it's not attached to the actual latch nothing happens.

Spray that thing with some good graphite lube. Graphite is considered the best product to use for locks, it doesn't evaporate and leave a residue that can attract even more grime.
