Buying a car on CarGurus
Asked by GuruDW7D93 Jun 03, 2024 at 10:07 PM about the 2020 Mercedes-Benz C-Class AMG C 43 Coupe 4MATIC
Question type: General
I am considering a car found on CarGurus and if I decide I'd like to make an offer for it, I wonder if CarGurus could help me buy it safely. I'm concerned about getting good title particularly if the car is subject to a lien now. I have not bought a car from a private party for many years.

Better rethink your make choice. Stay away from anything used that is European made. When you do find a vehicle have a shop check it over. The title can be searched by your local DMV.
Cargurus is an advertising site only. Similar to Craigslist, Facebook Marketplace, etc. They don't get involved with the transaction. If you're buying from a dealer the vehicle will not have a lien on it. They will also handle the title transfer for you. However, this, based on your question, sounds like a private party transaction. Personally I wouldn't buy a vehicle with a lien on it from a private person unless the transaction is completed at the lien holder's office and I got the signed title right then and there. Also, with a late model higher end vehicle such as this I would have my local Mercedes Dealer give it the once over BEFORE I decided to buy it. Or have it inspected by a professional inspection company. I've used lemonsquad.com in the past with excellent results. Your garage or chain type of repair shop will have absolutely no idea of what they're looking at! Jim
