1996 Ford Aerostar XLT Passenger Van

Asked by Cleo Apr 21, 2018 at 11:42 PM about the 1996 Ford Aerostar 3 Dr XLT Passenger Van

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 1996
aerostar xlt van
and it is out of
transmition fluid I
found out today but
before I knew that I
was driving it and
having problems
like at first I would
be stopped at a red
light my foot
holding the break
peddal down. My
car would rock
back and forth like
it settled into gear.
The light will turn
green I let off the
brake put my foot
on the gas and my
car wouldn't move
anywhere it would
just rev my engine.
I would have to
practically floor my
gas pedal before
my van would go
anywhere. That
went on that whole
evening until I
parked it into a
stall. The next
evening I went to
drive it I put my van
into reverse and my
van wanted to drive
forward so I turned
off the van and left
it alone that day.
today I tried putting
my car in every
year to reverse it
out of the parking
stall and each gear
wanted to drive
forward so I turned
off my van and
went and talked to
you a couple of my
friends. One of my
friends told me that
is probably
because of low or
none transmission
fluid my other
friend told me that
the linkage could
be off track. Well I
checked my
transmission fluid
and it has very very
little transmission
fluid in it. The one
that told me that is
probably because
of the transmission
fluid if I didn't
already bring up my
transmission
refilling the fluid
would probably
make my van work
again. So I'm
asking this
question to find out
the problem with
my van and how to
fix it. I don't have
the money to take
it to a shop
because I'm
handicapped and
homeless living
inside this van and
I only get a certain
amount every
month from SSI
which does not
include
maintenance on a
car. So if there's
anybody out there
who knows the
answer please get
back to me ASAP
cuz this is the only
way I have to get
around to my
doctor's
appointments Etc.
Thank you.

Low tranny fluid can deffinately cause the vehicle to not work properly. I would definately get the oe recommended ATF and fill it up.
