Coolant seeping out of seam on top of radiator (housing)

Asked by maggie Nov 09, 2017 at 12:54 PM about the 1997 Nissan Pickup 2 Dr XE Standard Cab SB

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Coolant leaking out of the seam on the top of the radiator housing.  Not a lot
but I want don't want a quick fix like I have now (electrical tape), I would like to
fix the issue.  There is also buildup of dried coolant around the outside/end of
the upper radiator hose down where it looks to connect to the block/engine?  I
am not a mechanic but try to do what I can to keep my little truck going.  I am
also limited on tools and funds so that is also an issue.  The car does not
appear to overheat ever - but damn the engine runs hot.  My buddy thinks it's
the thermostat which I should replace anyway.  I have done coolant flush and
the there is always coolant in the reservoir and obviously radiator so it's not a
huge leak.  Yet.  Any thoughts or ideas are greatly appreciated as this is my
only vehicle.  Has been for 13 years!  Should I go ahead a replace the radiator
cap too?  I change my own oil but that's about it.  Are there any other things
that I can personally do that are minor but would help keep the truck going in
the long run?  Thanks for your time.
