When i turn the key in my 1996 nissan maxima it wont start just makes this clicking noise

That's the starter solenoid telling you that there isn't enough juice (aka cranking amps) to start the car. The number one culprit is a dead or weak battery, so get that charged up. A jump start will get you going to.
