The best way to gain some power without making the car sound obnoxious is by installing a high air intake on it. Available at most auto parts stores, they are inexpensive and easy to install. Also, a high airflow exhaust will boost horse power but will make the car's engine sounds louder depending on how high the exhaust flow is. I would also HIGH recommend that you use the only fuel injector cleaner that actually works... Its called Techron fuel system cleaner. It is incredible... It boots horse power dramatically after the first tank of fuel. Do not be fooled by any other fuel injector cleaner. Seriously. This stuff works.
Joef pretty much covered all the best quick stuff. Better air filter/air intake (more air in), aftermarket exhaust (less pressure, easier exhaust exit = more power). Sadly, there isn't much for computer engine tuning for older cars. For what it's worth, Flowmaster makes a muffler/exhaust system called Hushpower. Adds power without making a lot of noise. A friend has that on his Mustang V-6. Quiet rumble, but that car will go pretty good. Though I've got semi-loud pipes on my truck and love them. Welcome to the world of car tuning!
Thanks joef for keeping it simple. i actually understood the words you used.... @ jason thanks dude..this is only the beginning for me. hopefully as i go along i will gain more knowledge. thanks again guys
