timing

Question type: Maintenance & Repair
After installing a replacement distributor. I read I need to check my timing. Not
quite sure the correct or proper procedure. Some says disconnect the idle
sensor and some says need not to. Where is the idle sensor located? Where is
the idle adjustment screw located? Label the hood: 700rpm @ 20 degrees.
Crankshaft pulley location is something else.

Which engine? 4 Cylinder? I did not think that the distributor moved very much, if you did not removed the head or move the timing marks it should be very close, When you removed the older unit did you make the marks to show its location if not you should have made a mark from engine onto distributor and then moved it both directions to see how far it moves and mark each way where it goes to, making line mark from first mark on distributor continue onto engine head then install the new one and move it to one side or the other all the way put mark on new one from the mark you made earlier and then move distributor to the center lining up marks and can check by moving distributor to the other mark it should line up then move it back to the center mark.

After making marks yourself the distributor will have one mark on it and the head 3 marks if you make your marks, may check to see if it already has marks on it.

Otherwise use a timing light and locate timing marks down by crank and move the distributor until they line up.
Does anyone no where i can find a video on how to set my timing on my 2001 nissan altima i just had to replace my cam shaft sensor and i was told i would have to reset my timing and i have no clue
My 01 altima gxe 2.4 l shut off on me at intersection and and now just cranks wont start. It it started one time and idled for a moment put it in gear and it died and now wont start i put new plugs and wires and distributor rotor still not starting I hooked up OBD2 scanner to it it only reads pending knock sensor code and O2 sensor bank 1 sensor 1 then IM readiness it says spark Advance is 63.5 degrees way too high or what is it in my timing and if so how do I get it back in town 4 valve cover chains look fan while trying to start it acts as if it wants to start making a popping sound getting tired but ethers to the intake throttle body has the bus stop but doesn't I don't know if the fuel filter and turn the key on the prime position it does nothing but soon as I spent over the engine it start pumping gas out the filter what could be causing this condition 2001 Nissan Altima GXE 2.4 l
