Where some trucks not equipped with a check engine light?

Asked by rlynch77 May 05, 2016 at 01:02 PM about the 1992 Nissan Pickup 2 Dr STD Standard Cab SB

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My truck failed smog because the check engine light was not functional.
After taking the dash apart I realized the truck doesn't even have a check engine light to repair!
Is there any way to document this to prove to the smog/DMV people that my vehicle is exempt?

The truck was originally sold in Utah. I called the Ca BAR. They suggested I go to a smog "referee" station to confirm that it does not have that light. I'll see what happens...thanks!
