Why want my hatch not shut?

Asked by Guru3P238 Jul 14, 2020 at 10:52 AM about the 2020 Subaru Outback Outdoor XT AWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

All the buttons to shut the hatch will not shut the hatch, just beep.  I can
manually shut but it will not latch.  There is stuff in the back but nothing is
touching the hatch.

without being there, it is hard to say. Can you at least drive over to the Subaru dealer and have them look at it?

Try recycling the system: FULLY open the hatch manually until the very top. Then FULLY close the hatch until you hear a double-click as it latches and locks. THEN push either the dash button or the hatch button and it should work. If not, chase Subie for a free latch assy under warranty.

Ok the answer is, per service rep at dealer: Background - I could manually open and shut the hatch but the latch at the bottom would not engage. None of the buttons for the latch worked, just a beep when pressed. You could press down all you wanted on the hatch but it would not work. Solution - while the hatch was down, Hold the button under the Subaru emblem for 10 seconds. This was a hard reset and after that the hatch worked as normal. Easy, no worries.

I had occasion to use this dealer's solution and it worked. Thank you.

I had this same problem. I held down the button that opens the hatch for just under 10 seconds when I heard a click. Worked like a charm.

Holding the hatch button on the door for 10 seconds worked for me too
