I have a 2003 Oldsmobile Silhouette and it keeps over heating first problem was it had a hole in a hose so changed it that caused the serpentine belt to snap changed that also took thermostat out for few days didn't stop so replaced with a new one then changed my water pump and I'm still over heating and now it acts like it dont want to start takes forever to start and looses power when I slow down and is still overheating

the first thing to check is if the fans come on when it gets hot , then the thermostat , but I'll bet a beer you have a blown head gasket , look under the oil fill cap what do you see ? what does the exhaust look like ? I drink sammy adams
It's normal I think and if it was the heads wouldn't it be knocking
i have the same problem, the fans work, the water circulates, changed the pump, changed the gauge and thermostat one fan is a little lower then the other but both work and flushed our coolant and replaced and still runs really hot.
I had overheating problem also, finally figured out the catalytic converter was so clogged it was causing a back pressure which would not allow the heat of the engine exhaust to exit through the muffler. I loosened the two nuts holding the exhaust pipe to the manifold creating an exhaust leak to test, the overheating stopped and the van ran with much more power, So I replaced catalytic converter. This also solved my a/c not cooling correctly by lowering the engine compartment temperature
