Rewiring a '55 Thunderbird

Asked by Vallemarr Jun 03, 2024 at 09:59 AM about the 1955 Ford Thunderbird 2 Door Convertible RWD with Removable Hardtop

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Looking to figure out what it would cost to rewire my  '55.  The wipers stopped working and had been converted to electric.  The turn signals sometimes work.  Looks like piecemeal updates and confusing wiring status.  My mechanic estimated $6000 but I am looking to see if there are other options.

If you find a wiring harness for your vehicle it will not be plug and play there will be things you'll have to figure out and without electrical knowledge it will be difficult , if you have someone do it there's a chance they'll charge you a lot and screw it up anyways

Check out Faxon Auto Literature in Riverside, CA for a reprint of the factory shop manual. You will find wiring diagrams in the shop manual. Faxon has a website. On a popular vintage vehicle like this I'm sure companies are reproducing the wiring harnesses. Perhaps a Thunderbird enthusiasts club can offer suggestions on what company to choose. Jim
