My 1996 Ford Explorer XLT 4 wheel drive will not move forward or backward.
Tried to engage the 4wheel drive with the dash switch, will not engage.

your torque converter is shot, OR the transmission has plugged oil ports

I’m assuming you have a automatic transmission. The bolt that holds the gear lever is on the inside of the transmission and it backed itself off, or possibly the gear lever unhooked itself from the transmission altogether?
