Driver side door lock

Asked by GuruTQL69 Jul 12, 2018 at 12:17 AM about the 1996 Ford Explorer 4 Dr XLT AWD SUV

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

When pushing unlock on my remote, the unlock mechanism on driver's side
door makes shrieking sound it unlocks the door, the button goes up and down ,
when I do it multiple times the sound comes and goes. Does anyone know what
part makes the button go up and down and unlock the door? And is it easy to
remove door panel to get to the part?

The door lock actuator is going bad, if the lock rod is acting like its hanging up when you try to open it with the key the latch is also going bad. This era explorer had issues with both.
