my gas gauge won't go to full and when i go to put gas in the tank, the pump handle continues to shut off like the car is filled. any ideas?

My Plymouth Prowler has been sitting up for about a year. Put non ethanol in tank and cleaner but won't start. Mechanic thinks needs new fuel pump. Anything I can try before I do that? 4 Answers
