No brake lights

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Hello everyone,

I have a pretty general electrical question I suppose.
So I recently purchased a 2007 ford e350 super
duty van. It has the Starcraft shuttle body. About
two days after purchasing it I lost the functionality
of the brake lights.

Heres what still works:
-I can shift out of park into gear
-The turn signals function
-Reverse lights function
-Running lights function
-Trailer lights function

Here's what I have tried so far:
-Checked fuse #11 - good
-Check the cables for corrosion
-Checked the grounds to the frame
-Checked the brake switch on the brake pedal
-Checked the multifunc. switch in the steering
column

Vehicle information:
-2007 ford e350
-Starcraft shuttle body
-145k miles
-4.6L V8 engine

Things to consider:
This vehicle has a fuse box in the engine
compartment, and beneath the drivers side of the
dash, BUT ALSO, it has an additional fuse panel
directly above the drivers seat in the shuttle. This is
for what I assume are the internal electronics of the
shuttle itself, however I'm not sure if they could be
complicating this brake light issue in any way.

Please let me know if anyone has any ideas.
Thank you very much,
Dom

I don't mean to be disrespectful but this sort of thing happened to me on one of my childrens cars.. I didn't see that you said you replaced the brake lights. Brake lights have at least two elements and one can work while the other does not.. so running light appears but brake will not. In my case, both the bulbs were burnt out at the same time.. which was very surprising.. but yep that was as simple as it was. If you haven't replaced them, then do that first.

Thank you DallasNic! I apologize for not specifying this in the OP, however I do not think it could be burnt bulbs as the shuttle body has all LED light fixtures. Not to say, it's impossible for them to fail, and I will most definitely take your advice and at least try to replace one to see if things change. However, I am curious if it could be something else.

Dom121394, I have a Starcraft doing the same thing yours did, and I checked the same things you checked. What did you find was the problem, please. gloriousoutlook@gmail.com Ty, rocket

Solidrocket turned out to be due to a rats nest of spliced wires underneath the bus that led to the trailer hookup. Looked like someone had spliced in the trailer hookup directly to the brake light wires and the connections were very corroded. After removing all of the extraneous wire that was not hooked up to anything I cleaned up all the connections and voila! Brake light function returned

Everything works but brake lights. After removing the engine cover inside the cab of the Ford E450 super duty 10cylinder. I found one of the connectors that was not connected. Connected the two connectors and now I have brake lights again. So my suggestion is to backtrack your previous work to see if you left something loose.
