Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 1998 E-150 conversion van, and the transmission fluid is black. The van has 198,000+ miles on it.
The tranny slips a little when just starting out, but other than that there is no problem. Does this need to be
serviced, and if so what would be involved?  Thanks in advance! :)

DO NOT SERVICE! With That many miles if it has not had the fluid changed you will surely smoke that tranny. Small particals in the oil from wear act as sand paper, putting new fluid in will make it slip and score the clutches. Baby it until it goes out then rebuild it or scrap her out. Sorry.
